racist? I think not.
I am a black woman who has sold tons of stuff at platos and have never seen any of the racist treatment imagined by 'retiredteacher29'. my black friends and I go there weekly to buy and sell. plato's and it's sister store the clothes mentor have done very well by me and mention that they look forward to purchasing what I bring in to sell. perhaps it is not a matter of color but of taste and aren't we all a bit fatigued by accusations of racist behavior especially when none exists?

Plato's sister store - Clothes Mentor - Racist?.
I wanted to post my feeling about Clothes Mentor. My sister and I cleaned out our closets and took our best to Clothes Mentor. All of her items were rejected. The only ones they took of mine were ones with store tags still on them. I wondered how they chose and the clerk gave me excuse after excuse. Too long, denim dresses do not sell, we can sell the vest but not the skirt, on and on. They rejected a brand new bronze trenchcoat, a 100% silk dress (knee length).
I took all of my items and left. (offering me $1.20 for a brand new Karen Scott t shirt???, $5 for a brand new Elizabeth 2 piece dress?)
So on the way home we saw Plato's closet and went in. They also rejected all of our clothes because they cater to teens and young adults (understandable) but we were stunned when she suggested we go to the "new" store they just opened (Clothes Mentor) because they would accept most of these items. She seemed kind of stunned when we told her we had just come from there and they rejected most of them.
Now were our items rejected because we are black? While in there, the only people we saw getting any money for their clothing were white people. Another black lady was in there and all of her items were rejected. I saw some of them and had noticed similar items in the store while I was looking around. If you know of a consignment shop that accepts clothing from black people, please email me!
