Tips for Gate House Grill

Interesting new restaurant.. I've had the pleasure of dining at the Gate House Grill on a a few occasions, and would have to say that the food is good, sometimes bordering on spectacular.

As noted in the previous post, this is not a "family" restaurant. There is one of those a few doors down in the plaza. The Gate House Grill is a great place to take a first date after a movie, or if you want to celebrate an anniversary with a romantic dinner. The lights are kept low, which promotes intimacy.

While the management knows what they are doing, this is still a fairly new restaurant. There are some kinks to work out. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that some of the wait staff may not live up to your expectation from a restaurant of this quality. I suppose that is a price you have to pay for making the food affordable, but I did find at times they forgot they were there to serve me. I'm confident the management will get that straightened out in short order.

All in all, I'd have to rate Gate House Grill as one of the better places to eat on a moderate budget.

Our new favorie restaurant!. This is my first review. We went last Saturday because of an advertisement for two October fest specials. I had the sauerbraten my wife had the meatloaf. Everything about this place was fantastic. We had the best French onion soup we have ever had. The broth was deep in flavor and the onions were perfectly cooked. I think they used a Gruyere instead of mozzarella. The house salad dressing was a poppy seed with a tart lemon overtone. My wife loved it. The sauerbraten was second only to my mother's with purple cabbage and hot potato salad. My wife has never ordered meatloaf in a restaurant in her life and she is glad she did. The meatloaf was served in mushroom gravy with mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked carrots and green beans. The meal was delicious. We were very full but we had to try a dessert so we split the chocolate creme brulee. It was the best I ever had. The quality of every single thing we had was first class and would be enough to send us back but the service and decor was equally impressive. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and was always there when we needed her. The place is small with dark woods and romantic lighting. There is a bar separate from the dining area. This is a perfect date restaurant or a night out without the kids. The menu was classic, American foods with a nice variety. We are going again tonight and we are taking friends. I hope it is as good as the first time.
