Depew >La Costa Verde
This was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life....
So we go there last night to have a nice Italian dinner and relax. We found out on Tues that my sister's bf is in remission for cancer and can go back to work....it was supposed to be a celebration. It turned into a nightmare.
To start, we were seated on top of an ice cold air-conditioner vent that we had to cover with my purse and they took forever to take our drink order. Then they forgot to bring us our bread and my soup before the meal. The people who were seated AFTER us got their MEAL before we even got the bread. And when I stopped the waitress to ask what happened she gave me attitude and told me it was still in the oven....and then brought out burnt lukewarm bread that obviously had NOT just come out of the oven. Then, because I had dared to question her, the waitress snubbed me the rest of the night. She brought everyone's food out BUT MINE...and then didn't say a word to me about it coming right up or apologizing for the delay. Nope, she just brought it out over 10 mins later without a word of apology. She never once asked how our food was or offered any drink refills.
Then when we asked for some to go boxes, she took over 10 mins to bring them. She came out to our area half a dozen times, but didnt bother to bring our boxes.
But it was the bill that finally put us over the edge. My sister ordered gnocchi (which is an $8 meal) with Alfredo sauce and a side of shrimp. They charged her $17.50...over DOUBLE the price of the meal. When it was pointed out that there had to be a mistake they refused to make any changes. We then asked to speak with the owner's wife (who was the one our waitress claimed forced that price). She was nasty, rude, and had no customer service skills.
We have ordered that meal for years that way...and it always came to about $12....now all of a sudden she changed the price on us. When we explained that we have done this countless times before, that we were regular customers, and that we were not informed that there would be a huge price difference, she told us too bad. In fact she said "I can't do anything about it"...so I informed her that it wasn't that she couldn't, it was that she WOULDN'T do anything about it.
When I left, I stood outside at my sister's car for a few mins waiting for the rest of our party to pay their bills...and the moment the rest of my party came out of the restaurant a waitress came out of the kitchen entrance with an attitude and told us that we had to leave immediately or she would call the police. We asked her for what and she said "for being rude". Then she slams the screen door and locks it!
We are never going back there again.
Delicious home-cooked food, good prices.
We've been looking for an Italian restaurant like this for a while. We've paid more, and paid less but La Costa Verde fit the bill. We ordered side salad with the house Italian dressing, the Paisano bread, stuffed shells and sausage and peppers. They brought us a basket of hot Italian loaf - if we know we were getting this, we wouldn't have ordered more. The Paisano bread could have passed as a meal itself - kind of a hot sausage and cheese submarine sandwich. The salad was nice, nothing special but our main dishes were wonderful. I was served 4 large pasta shells, stuffed with cheese, then layered with mozarella cheese and baked. They have wonderful tomato sauce. My husband was served a huge bowl of sausage and peppers in a tomato sauce - he loved it. His salad came with his meal as well as a side of pasta - he chose spaghetti. I had a soda, got a free refill, my husband had a draft beer. The bill came to $37.00 and we have a large container of leftovers to take home - we ordered too much food.
The staff was attentive but not clingy - just right. The decor is nice enough - clean and homey. It seemed like a lot of locals inside. We'll come back to this nice little restaurant again.
