Wednesday nights are host to Buffalo's only "gypsy jazz" band, "Babik" (pronounced bah-beek). Worth seeing if you're in the area, but don't bother making a special trip for these guys. Any other night of the week isn't worth going, which is a shame. The intimate atmosphere reminds one of a quaint bistro in (insert romantic setting here). Candles adorn, but cannot make up for some bartenders lack of taste during intermission music (Hardcore should never interlude jazz). The menu is unique, yet extremely limited and outlandishly over-priced). Plan to spend between $14-$25 per entree for less than average food. There are plenty of better places to eat in the Buffalo area, especially the Allentown district. They don't open until 4pm, so lunch here is not an option. There is a small patio (3 tables) which can be nice for an early dinner. Limited selection of rotating beers on tap (only 3!) is largely over-priced, although it is usually several good choices. Very large (good) selection of bottled brews. A comprehensive wine list with less-than-adept server knowledge. Service at the bar is slow and crowded, as is the not-so-generous table spacing. This venue has great potential, but lacks an overall friendly atmosphere. Once sundown comes, head home. For the upscale atmosphere this "cafe" attempts to portray, they sure attract some ruffians. Requires a bouncer after 9pm. Could attract more upscale clientele (the kind of place one would stop into for a drink after work), rather than being the kind of place that caters to the college age partiers.
