Salsa sampler?

by Gret

The Salsa Sampler was described as this, "our regular salsa, a spicy halapeno salsa, a cactus salsa, and a black bean salsa." Sounded tempting. What she should have said is " we take our regular salsa and put some halapenos in it, then we take that same salsa and put a few pieces of cactus in it, and follow the same with adding a few black beans." The tomato chunks had that tangy fizzy taste that tomatoes get when they turn. Get your drinks and leave the food behind.

Needs a visit from Kitchen Nightmares

by somereviewerBuffalo

This place is pretty god awful as a lunch destination. I went with four of my coworkers today. I understand that it is a bar, and smells disgusting like most bars, so that did not bother me. I was betting on the food being somewhat decent based on the exciting offerings on their menu. Boy was I disappointed. I can barely remember a time in the past when I've had food quite this bad from a restaurant before. I ordered some fish tacos with red snapper. That was a mistake. What I got on my plate reeked like raw sewage, and the fish was chewy... How the hell do you make fish that is chewy!? It was disgusting, and the fish tacos were filled with thick pieces of skin that for the most part seemed inedible. The rice was another sad story. It was hard, dry, stale, and had unidentifiable lumps that I can only assume were chunks of overcooked rice from days long past. My coworkers were less adventurous in their orders, getting quesadillas and the like, but were on the whole unimpressed as well, and I heard the word "gross" being tossed around frequently. Anyway, it was obvious that the majority of the food, except from some of the garnishes, were really not fresh. I mean "not fresh" is putting it lightly. Some of this stuff, had to be several days, to probably weeks old. The chef today must have had some cajones serving this to human beings. The waitress was god awful as well. We had no eating utensils for quite some time, and instead of waiting the 5 or 6 tables she had, she spent most of her time chatting with the bartender in the other room. Anyway, try not to visit this establishment unless you're really really full, and thus can forego the actual ordering of food.

  • Pros: Slightly warmer inside than out in the freezing cold.
  • Cons: The food and the service.

A Great Surprise

by fallnislikethis

I lived a mere few blocks from this place for the last year and never went. Finally, my friends and I decided to check it out. It was after 9pm and on a cold night, so besides for a few dedicated souls at the bar, the place was pretty much dead. That might have been why the service was so fast and the waitress was so attentive, but I think that she was just a great waitress anyway. For a drink, I ordered a banana margarita, but they were out of bananas ? the waitress suggested that I get a strawberry margarita with banana liqueur. The drink, served with real whipped cream on top and blended with actual strawberries, was absolutely fantastic. For an appetizer, we chose a special; Avocado cakes. They did not disappoint. They were made from avocados, Monterrey jack cheese and cashews and then lightly fried and served with a spicy roumelade. We all loved them. For my entree I ordered Maryland Blue Crab Quesadillas. They were just great. Lots of crab and just the right amount of spice. My only complaint is that I would have liked to try the black beans and rice on the side ? it came with the Curried Chicken Burrito my friend ordered. But for under $12, I guess it wasn?t such a bad deal. If you are looking for traditional Mexican food, this is probably not the place for you - but if you want Mexican fusion and interesting seafood options, this place is great. Overall, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was nice and the service was wonderful. I will definitely be going there again!
