In Short – Housed behind one of Buffalo's late-Victorian mansions, Mother's has a daffodil yellow exterior; the inside is half long bar, half dining room, with candles glowing on white tablecloths. In warm weather the sophisticated crowd spills into the iron-fenced garden. Appetizers like farfalle with chorizo and roasted tomatoes and goat cheese are generous. Standard Mother's fare includes bay scallops and black fettucine with spinach, red peppers and saffron cream, or duck and sausage cassoulet with white beans and pork sausage.
Hooked on Mothers

I left Buffalo about 6 years ago to go to the metro Atlanta area and have missed the atmosphere at Mothers more than any other restaurant in Buffalo. My friends and I always got great service and great drinks there which is what makes a difference to me. I'm moving back to Buffalo in a few weeks and will be meeting several friends at Mothers the same night I get into town after a 14 hour drive. I'm looking forward to getting back to Buffalo and getting some of my fav dishes at Mothers.
- Pros: Great Drinks & Service
- Cons: Limited space
Loved it

I went to Mother's with a couple of friends last Fall 2008. We had never been there and just relied on it being some place new. We felt very under-dressed for the environment (business casual or formal is best) and weren't treated any differently. The service was great. The food was amazing, the environment is very pleasant, lighting is dim. It was not crowded when we went early around 7pm- by the end of the meal became pretty busy. The best part is you can hear yourself speak, unlike most places. You aren't seated like sardines. I speak very highly of Mother's. I expected it to be some sleazy Anchorbar, but it was fantastic. I'm returning tonight and will post again of any changes. Maybe some of these reviewers are a bit too pompous enjoy the experience. We'll see!
- Pros: Food and Service was excellent
- Cons: Pricey- but worth it.
Just a whiff of homophobia?

Having been numerous times to Mother's on various trips to Buffalo, I looked forward to yet another pleasant visit. After arriving a few minutes before our reservation time, my friend and I were told to wait to the side, though a few empty tables were set and ready. Other parties arrived, and were sat.
Then two parties of two arrived, (each one man and one woman), and as I was near the hostess stand I over heard that neither party had a reservation. One of the parties was sat at a 4 top immediately, so at this point I leaned in and asked when we would be sat., and was told when our table was ready. I pointed out the 2nd available 4-top and was ignored. Couple #2 was then sat there..
Finally after a total of 20 minutes waiting time we were ushered to a small 2-top directly next to the full bar. Thus affording us an excellent view of all the bar patrons pants labels, and hem heights.
While one of the 'straight' couples at the 4 top, were enjoying their Miller High Life, clad in concert t-shirts. We were basically ignored after I complained that a tipsy bar patron had knocked over our bottle of pinot with his backside.
Were our button down shirts too tight? Our Manhattan hipster-Chelsea-boy image too polished? We certainly didn't imitate the 'High Life' couple as they groped each other between swigs. So as a one time regular (meaning that whenever I was in town), I'm thinking for our up coming trip next week, I'll skip the 3rd class treatment at Mother's, and maybe try Hutch's instead.. or Curley's in Lakawana.. another fun place.
- Pros: pleasant fare, late night dining, a 'scene'
- Cons: spotty service, and as follows;
