Buffalo >The Continental
Sure miss the old club !. WOW, I've been going to the Continental since the mid-eighties !!!! It was very sad the day it closed. Had hoped it would reopen. What made it the best place to dance is the diversity of the crowd and the "lessez faire" attitude. And the DJ's and that sound system that was crystal clear despite it being so loud you could feel it in your chest. Such a shame it's gone. No other place comes close ......
CLOSED!!. Unfortunately this bar closed down about 3 years ago. If you are interseted in goth/industrial music try a search for TechNoir, which Buffalo's monthly gothic dance event which is held at Mohawk Place. Otherwise the closest goth/industrial bar is Vertex, located in Rochester, NY. If you are interested in the rock aspect of it, there's plenty of other venues now, such as Mohawk Place, Club Diablo, etc.
skip Chippewa. I left Bflo in 85, but usually hit the Continental on my frequent visits home. The live music is heavy, the upstairs is alternative dance. If you prefer commercial music and are uncomfortable around people who can truly be themselves, then go to the Chippewa bars where you'll safely blend in. If you have an open mind and might like hanging in a place where goths, bikers, cross-dressers, and guys in hockey jerseys are all cool with each other, then stop in the Continental.
Whips, chains, bondage...OH MY!. THis club has been open for years! I am 23 and I know some 35 year olds telling me about this place. It seems that not much has changed. The 1st floor is the bar and where live bands perform. The 2nd is another bar and dance floor, I believe it is open later at night. All kinds of band have performed there--from indie, goth-rock, punk. The dance floor is always an interesting treat.
