Great food and service. The Tuscarora Chicken was fabulous. Our waitress, Peggy, was on the ball. I think we had the best seat in the house just above the bar. Everything was great except one obnoxious loud jerk at the bar. When he left the place was wonderful.
The Blackthorn Restaurant and Pub....Buffalo's Best Kept Secret!!!!. I love this place. The menu is huge, there is definitely something for everyone. I would highly recommend a dish called Tuscarora Chicken....it is excellent. It's breaded chicken pan fried and topped with a bell pepper cheese sauce, sinfully good. They are also famous for their French Onion soup. I had it for the first time last fall and am completely addicted to it and get it every time I go. Friday's in lent don't miss their fish fry's, best in town. You also have got to try their homemade Peanut Butter pie, it's perfect because it's not too peanut buttery like so many peanut butter pies are, try it with a cup of one of their specialty coffee's like the Nutty Irishman. Another recommendation is if you like to drink Manhattans you'll love this place. You get the Manhattan of your choice mixed or shaken to perfection. They serve it with a rocks glass and a shaker full on the side so you can keep refilling throughout dinner, it's fantastic!!!! I can't say enough about this place, I have taken many of my clients there over the past year and eveyone I take there is just asimpressed by the excellent food and service as I am. Every time I've dined at The Blackthorn I've seen politicians in there enjoying a meal in the dining room or having a drink at the bar.Mayor Byron Brown, Congressman Brian Higgins, State Assemblyman Mark Shroeder, Comptroller Mark Polancarz, Legislator Tim Kennedy, just to name a few. One night over the winter I stopped in for dinner with my husband and there were news trucks outside, we walked in the restaurant and there sitting at the bar was Tim Russert. Later I found out they were taping a segment on the nightly news about Tim Russert and his dad. Come to find out that The Blackthorn is their favorite restaurant, who knew!!! In my opinion The Blackthorn is Buffalo's best kept secret. I will continue to enjoy their warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere, the friendliness of their owner's and staff, and the wide variety of their delicious dishes!!!
The Food is OK however the staff is slow. There is a wide menu with some good dishes however the staff is extremely slow it always takes foreveer to get your food and I wouldn't recommend the soda. There is however a large dining room and a nice banquet room upstairs.
This warm South Buffalo pub serves a selection of beers alongside Irish and American favorites..
The Scene
One of the city's few Irish restaurants, the Blackthorn (named after the traditional Irish walking stick) is in predominantly Irish South Buffalo. The casual, comfortable dining room adjoins the front barroom. Service is quick, warm and friendly, and domestic, imported, draught and micro brews are all available.
The Food
The Blackthorn's Irish specialties include a smoked salmon appetizer with red onion, capers, cucumber, and rye toast points, Irish beer cheddar soup, calves liver with onion-bacon-sherry sauce and corned beef. The rest of the menu consists of an American mix of pasta dishes, burgers, sandwiches, steak and stir fry.
Dish to Die For
Don't miss the traditional lamb stew in a light mint gravy.
