Expect genuine German favorites served in a cozy bungalow setting..
The Scene
Tucked away in an old German neighborhood, Scharf's is housed in a 1920s bungalow that was converted into a bar and restaurant after Prohibition. It's a bit tricky to find, but well worth the effort. For the past 30 years, Scharf's has built its reputation on serving authentic Bavarian favorites at remarkably reasonable prices.
The Food
This is international comfort food. The liver dumpling soup is thick, warm and tasty. After one bowl, you'll swear they have a German grandmother in the kitchen supervising the cooking. Red cabbage and dumplings are deeply satisfying with delicious sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel, roast duck or roast pork. The hot potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream are incredible, even better than those served in the city's most expensive restaurants. And adding to the charm, the service is warm and friendly.
