Goliath bird-eating spiders, maned wolves and pancake tortoises lure visitors to the third-oldest zoo in the country..
The Background
In 1875, Buffalo mayor William Rogers received two deer as a gift. He sent them to graze in Delaware Park and inadvertently founded Buffalo's zoo. The 23-acre menagerie now has almost a thousand animals in its care. Improvements to the enclosures are ongoing as additional features and landscaping make the habitats more naturalistic.
The Experience
Hundreds of animal species from around the world grace the zoo, including a gorilla troop and giant Brazilian cockroaches. Child-friendly attractions like the Wild Center let little ones feed nectar to a flock of lorikeets, while the children's zoo gives kids hands-on experience with sheep, chickens and alpacas. The Beastro serves burgers, hot dogs and other snacks with additional concession stands scattered throughout the zoo. Parents consider yourself warned: The gift shop carries armloads of stuffed animals, books and T-shirts.
Great for all ages!. The Buffalo Zoo is highly underrated. Where else can you have so much fun with friends, or introduce your children to the wonderful animal kingdom?
There is nothing like the Buffalo Zoo. There are so many beautiful animals to see. It has gotten cleaner through the years, which is a big improvement from MY childhood!
