Poor customer service. I live in
Kenmore and heard great things around town and online about Hofert Jewelers, particularly that they are a customer oriented family owned establishment. I stopped in with my fiance to have her engagement ring re-sized. They didn't greet us when we walked in, were very short tempered, and overall, the experience really was a turn off because they both lacked a customer friendly attitude. Here we are, a recently engaged couple, and the one employee who did speak with us didn't do more than asking "what can I do for you?"
We don't expect to be treated like royalty, but we felt as though the employees couldn't be bothered with our simple request to put a ring guard on. We will be looking for a local jewelry store to do business with. In the future, consider better customer service to entice and keep potential customers.
They broke my watch and wont take responsibility. DO NOT TAKE YOUR WATCH TO HOFERTS JEWELERS FOR A BATTERY CHANGE!!! I took my Seiko Perpetual Calendar Watch there to have the battery changed, and after trying to do the service DOM the owner (?) came out of the backroom with the watch and it was ticking in 5 second increments. He asked me (the customer) if this was normal... isn't it his job to know that? After all, he is the professional right? So then he tells me that the battery might be old, he didnt know how long it had been laying around. He said he would have to have his "watch guy" take a look at it and they would call when it was ready to be picked up. A week later I got a call from them and they left a message on my answering service telling me the watch needed to be sent to the factory, and to come in and pick it up. I went yesterday to pick it up, and when I asked the sales lady why it needed to be sent to the factory she said that they had replaced the battery and it was still ticking incorrectly, so the "watch guy" determined that there was something wrong with the circuitry of the watch. I explained that I was concerned with the situation due to the fact that the watch had been in good working order, and aside from them changing the battery, that the watch had never been opened. She looked at me and asked me if I was implying that they broke the watch. Again I explained that minus the battery needing to be changed, the watch was in good working order when I brought it to them. She excused herself to go get the owner. I heard her from the other side of the wall say "Dom, do you wanna come talk to this guy... he's claiming we broke his watch." So Dom came to the doorway (he wouldnt even approach the counter) and simply said "We didnt break your watch, it was ticking incorrectly when you brought it in." I said that it wasnt ticking at all when I brought it in, thats why I brought it, it needed a battery, remember? He said to me that they had changed the battery and still isnt working right. I tried to explain to him that prior to bringing it to them it was in good working order, to which he replied "It was in good working order, or it needed a new battery... which is it?" Then he proceeded to tell me how the "watch guy" was trained in switzerland, and he knows what he's doing, and "If your car needs a new transmission, putting a new battery in it isnt going to make it work." To which I replied "If you took your car in for a new battery and when they call you a week later to pick it up they told you it needed a new transmission, wouldnt you be suspicious if the transmission was working just fine to take it in for the new battery?" Needless to say, I got absolutely no where with them. I discovered after I got home that the date doesnt change anymore either. I took my watch there, and they broke it, end of story. I gave a 1 star rating because the site requires some kind of rating, but they dont even deserve 1 star.
the best jewelry store in town. I find buying jewelry for my wife very intimidating. However, the Hoferts are knowledgeable, friendly and take my questions and concerns very seriously. They will give you suggestions if you ask, but won't try to tell you what you want. They treat you like you are their only customer, and have all the time in the world for you. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Best in Buffalo. Family owned and it shows. My father never bought from anyone else, and I bought a ring for my mom from Mr. Hofert 30 years ago, with my tip money from Your Host. No matter what you're spending, you'll be treated with the utmost respect. A friend of mine needed her diamond ring repaired, but she was from out of town and didn't trust anyone with her diamond, I sent her to Hofert's. Skip the mall, head to Kenmore, and don't forget to stop at Watson's for some sponge candy.
Best Jeweler in Buffalo. My family has been shopping here for generations. Their customer service is hands down better than I've found anywhere else in the entire state! I've moved out of the area and I still do not trust anyone but Hoferts to do my repairs and cleanings. To top it off their prices are very reasonable. A true Kenmore institution!!
