Poor customer service. I bought a
"Amish" table from Calvin's and the manufacturer nor Calvin's ran quality control checks before they delivered our table. The table leaves did not fit properly so the delivery men took the defected table top and leaves back to the store for repair. The table base and 8 chairs where left in my house for 6 weeks. We had no kitchen table to eat at for 6 weeks. I asked Calvin's to reimburse me for 5% of the costs because of the inconveinence. However, they refused and just offered me $75 when I had paid $4,600. In addition when they redelivered the table there still were problems with the table (manufacturer forgot to refinish one edge of the table).
Honestly, I wish I had never walked into that store because I had heard of other complaints of poor customer service. However, the nice sales lady "got" me. Too bad Calvin's didn't handle me better. If they would have paid me the $230 in compensation I was looking for I would have bought more furniture from them and I wouldn't be so bitter. Greedy owners - that's all I have to say.
Pleasure to deal with. I am very surprised by 14217's experience with Calvin's. I bought a bedroom from there just recently and they were wonderful. My saleswoman was very knowledgable and extremely helpful. I absolutely love my bedroom. The deliverymen were very polite- they even took their shoes off!! Plus when I called with a problem with a drawer, they took care of it right away. I had done ALOT of shopping around and no one offered as good a deal as them with such great quality. I personally would reccomend them to anyone!
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Incredibly poor customer service. They do not have a computerized system, they still write everything on paper with carbon copies. This led to a 28 day "misplacing" of our furniture (after waiting 2 months for its manufacture), which they originally blamed on the shipper. When I filed a complaint with the national business bureau, I received this response from the shipper:
"However, I will advise the (Business Bureau) that the delay was due to the carrier following the bill of lading contract in reference to the freight charges moving collect. We attempted several times to collect the charges from Calvin so we could deliver the freight, they finally paid the charges on 12-15 at which time we lined the shipment up for delivery next time in the area which was the 22nd. As you can see the complaint should have been with the consignee, not MGM."
As they do not pay their contractors in a timely manner, this resulted in a 28 delay of our furniture, lying to us about it's 'loss' , blaming it on the trucking/shipping company, and then refusal to return phone calls until we started raising our voices above conversation level during our repeated calls to their company. When I called back to let them know I had filed a complaint with the Business Bureau against the shipper, I received the response "these things happen in retail".
If this is service that you find acceptable, shop with them. If not, then I would highly advise shopping elsewhere.
