I have to agree with Lillian B. The bad reviews are undeserved. My family and I went there for crab night and it was one of the best meals I've ever had!
Their appetizer platter is a sampling of pretty much everything they have, and it quite generous. The clams were amazing!! Everything was quite tasty and nothing was 'overdone'.
Our salads were quite large. They had a pretty standard assortment of ingredients but that's how dinner salads are...If you're looking for unusual types of lettuce, order a "salad" --don't expect a dinner salad to be all fancy and unusual. Everything was quite fresh and delicious and was generously sized as well. BTW, the house dressing is excellent and I highly recommend it!
When our crab came, we were pretty full, but my husband managed to eat his entire crab! I'm not sure how many crabs come per serving but it seemed to be *many*--far more than one person could hope to eat...And your potato comes out with the crab, so it's quite a feast! I had the twice-baked potato which was incredible! Many different flavors but nothing overwhelming. My husband got the regular baked and it was very large and baked nice and fluffy!
The crab is amazing! The portions are huge and the crab is piping hot when it arrives at the table.
The servers are super-attentive. It's like going to a friend's house for dinner...Very homey, friendly and inviting. The servers make sure you are well-taken care of but don't hover over you constantly.
The total for our meal was **quite** reasonable considering the quality and sheer volume of food we received. I can't complain about the price at all! Definitely money well-spent.
Can't wait to go back again, and I would recommend them any time!
I am reading these reviews in utter astonishment. Over priced? Not by a long shot. It is a family owned restaurant, not a chain and not a dining establishment that will shock your wallet. There are items on the menu starting at $10.99 and up. Great specials and the best part your meals come with a salad and a side. None of this a la carte business. You know that when you leave there you will not be leaving hungry or in the poor house. I highly recommend this restaurant. Even saved a little money using the coupon that is in the Night Out Book.
I would give it a 0 if I could. Terribly unpleasant hostess. They left the old special up on the board. We ordered it, not knowing it wasn t current. We got our bill and asked the waitress why we didn t receive the special? She gave us a run around. We then spoke to the manager, Chuck, who was even more rude than the hostess, he wouldn t even look at us while we were speaking to him. He gave us one excuse after the other - the hostess was in a car accident so she didn t have time to change the board, the board wasn t lit up so that means they arent doing that special, we got to the restaurant too early (it opens at 3, we were there at 315), the website clearly lists the specials of the day, and so on.... Never once did he apologize, nor did he give us any sort of refund. Awful food and horrendous customer service. Never again will we dine here. Don't waste your money.
Not Recommended – My family and I went to Hirsch's for dinner. After we were seated, we had to wait for awhile before the waitress came to our table...and she was not the friendliest person in the world. We had to flag the waitress down to have our water glasses refilled. The menu selection was almost non existent on this particular day. The prices were high and the food was not that good at all. I will never go to this restaurant again.
Really really bad service – My girlfriend and I were on a date and looking for a place to eat at 8:00 (it doesn't close till 9). We're both 24 and we were wearing casual clothes and went in. Nobody even greeted us for several minutes until finally the guy working the bar begrudgingly came to greet us. We asked politely if they were still open and he said yes but looked like it was some terrible chore for us to eat there. Then he got out the menu and said, "I don't know if we have what you're looking for." Then he showed us the prices (which were only $15-25) and pointing to the $15 said "This is the cheapest thing we have." He clearly did not want us eating there. Now my girlfriend and I are young professionals. We were dressed well. We are clearly not too broke to eat at a decent restaurant (and this place isn't even a fancy restaurant). But for some reason this snooty jerk did not want us to eat there. We both left because we were clearly not wanted. I don't know why anyone would choose this place for their meal.
Not one to complain but... – My family and I decided to go here because there was a coupon in an entertainment-type book that we wanted to use. We arrived and the entire parking lot/driveway was slicked with ice and very treacherous. Should have taken that as a bad omen at that point...We had reservations, although we didn't really need them on a tuesday night. There were 5 adults and 1 10 month old in our party. My dad started off by asking the waitress (Sherrie I think?) about the coupon, which was buy 1 entree get one free (up to $10) Almost nothing was under $10, and you could only choose entrees with no asterisk by it (only about 7 or so entrees to choose from. Then my dad asked about a special he saw on the website, the waitress didn't know anything about it so she went to ask the chef. Apparently my dad read the special wrong but she came back and made us seem like morons for even asking. The food and drinks were good, but it seemed overpriced. The outside sign said "TUESDAY CRAB NIGHT" but the special didn't even exist anymore. Sherrie was rude and made it seem like she was going out of her way to serve us. Then the real kickers were the fact that they could not make 2 checks. "Because we used the coupon", we could not have 2 checks. We got the bill and the gratuity was included, which we thought was weird because in the menu it said "for parties of 6 or more 15% gratuity included" (which I wouldn't have even given her that much) ...then we realized...THEY COUNTED THE BABY! A 10 month old which we asked for a bowl of WATER to heat his bottle! REALLY?! Then it took them forever to calculate what we owed and what the other half of the party owed, because they had to calculate the gratuity of course. It was so convoluted. And not enjoyable at all. Oh and the fries where frozen cafeteria-like fries. Needless to say we will not be back. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the food was not horrible.
Terrible Ribs – Thursday we tried the Ribs special. The ribs were cut in small pieces and primarily ends. We were not informed of the menue and if we had we would not have ordered the ribs. The rolls were delivered half way through the meal and were stale. The cole slaw tasted very bad. Worst meal we have had in a long time. Guess thats why there was only a few people in the restaurant. Finally, for what we ordered the price was very high. Never again!
Definitely will return – Our visit started out a little slow. We waited quite a while for our waiter to come over to the table to get a drink order. It was Friday dinner hour, but we did have reservations and were seated within 10 minutes of the time we wanted. But after Sean did get to our table everything was wonderful. He was extremely accomodating and all of the food was great. We ordered appetizers to share, the clams casino were awesome. Don't know if I'd order the stuffed mushrooms again, sorta tasted a little burnt or something. But everthing else was Great. We will definitely be doing back to try more of their food. thank you so much for a great experience!
BEST BBQ RIBS IN TOWN!!!! – This is a local restaurent...not a chain. For other reviews I have read that are negative...I 100% disagree with them. The food is delicious and the prices can not be beat. Whether you are looking for a romantic evening or a place to bring the family.....Hirsch's is the place to go.
The BBQ Ribs are FANTASTIC and are award winning (Taste of Williamsville?).
