Editorial Review for Antoinette's on the Hill – by Helen Russell
The Scene
For generations, boys and girls of all ages have flocked to Antoinette's for unsurpassed homemade ice cream and chocolates. Nestled into the hill, the building's concrete curves, expanses of glass and pink neon soar into the future, while the rich ice cream recipes remain firmly fixed in the past.
The Food
High butterfat content and excellent flavorings, including Antoinette's own fine chocolates, make this ice cream special. Ice cream sodas come in unusual flavors like butter-rum and cinnamon-chocolate. Sundaes come in scores of combinations: Toppings like fresh fruit, rich chocolate and butterscotch sauce are crowned with the heaviest whipped cream imaginable. Try the nutty butterscotch sundae, with vanilla ice cream, butterscotch sauce, whipped cream and chopped walnuts. Of course, plain ice creams like coconut and Greek mint are also available.

Insider Tips
Feel Like Hot Cocoa?Try the cocoa cream sundae, with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, chocolate pudding, marshmallow sauce, whipped cream and chocolate jimmies. It tastes just like hot chocolate.

Yummy - got a hot fudge sundae (with whipped cream, of course)! I'm from out of town and this was my second visit to Antoinette's on the Hill. I came to Buffalo several years ago and my host took me for ice cream after a Beef on Weck dinner at Schwabl's. I loved it then, and it was just as good this time. The whole dining experience - from dinner to dessert was a great taste of local Buffalo fare. I'd recommend both of these places to out of towners who are not into chain type dining. If you're full - get something and share it - they are BIG portions. Make sure you check out the candies - a little something to bring back as a treat for those at home!

Antoinette's has the best homemade icecream and the only place that I know who makes their own whipped cream too. They have every possible sundae you can ever want and if they don't you can just ask for what every your tastebuds desire. The sudaes are good but careful if you get a messy one although those are the best. Milkshakes and cones are available too.
