This used to be my mother and father's
GO TO place for "date nights" when I was a kid, so I figured it would be a super cute way to celebrate a special occasion now. Wow, I was wrong. And WOW, I can't believe this place is still open--- it can only ride on it's own "hey-dey" coattails for so long, I would think! Maybe this was the best of the best back in the day, but nowadays WNY has such a huge selection of higher-end restaurants to choose from that puts this place to shame.
We dined here and we were completely disappointed. Their menu makes it a point to clarify to patrons what the specific meat cooking temperatures are, yet the cooks themselves apparently do not follow the same guidelines. I was shocked to see that an establishment that has always prided itself on being ‘Buffalo's Steakhouse since 1969’ was completely unable to cook an 8-ounce steak to the desired doneness. I ordered the dinner special with chicken and steak, and ordered my 8-oz sirloin medium well, as per the menu: ‘brown with slight pink in the middle’. When it was delivered, I cut into it and blood literally spilled out onto my plate. The meat inside was bright red, nowhere near medium well. The waitress agreed, apologized, and took the steak back to the kitchen to cook it to the appropriate temperature. I was APPALLED when the meat was delivered back to the table shortly after, still not cooked to medium well. I refused to make a scene and send it back a second time, but I could not believe that a steakhouse could not cook it right the first time, let alone allow it out of the kitchen a second time without being 100% certain it was cooked correctly! I literally had to cover the pool of blood on my plate with a piece of bread.
We could not understand how this was allowed to happen. The restaurant was perhaps at 15% occupancy, so this lack of attention to our meal certainly was not due to a plentitude of orders piling up in the kitchen and taxing the capabilities of the cook. Even worse, the cook nor the waitress did not check to see if the steak was cooked correctly the second time and, even after seeing the bloody steak sitting on my plate at the end of the meal, uneaten, did not offer apologies or ask if there was anything she could do to make things better.
Our waitress then proceeded to bring out the birthday cake my husband had pre-ordered for me (yeah, this was all on my birthday; go figure!), and it was still **completely frozen.** Wow, what an end to an utterly unsatisfying dining experience. Although the food quality was our main complaint, I would also like to note that the restaurant had a musty smell upon first entering, the salad bar was not fully stocked, the cocktail waitress was virtually invisible throughout our meal, and we were disappointed to see that the fresh, thick, pumpernickel bread that used to be on the salad bar years ago is no longer part of the experience. To top it all off, when I wrote a letter of complaint to the management, they NEVER bothered to respond. I think that speaks volumes about this business and its owners.
GREAT FOOD AND SPIRITS!!. On a restaurant strip where lot's of places come and go. To my understanding the Scotch has been around forever because of the quality of their steaks. My friend suggested this place for our party. It was a little pricey but the food was so worth it, picture perfect. The salad bar was very fresh and had lot's of choices including fresh pumpernickel bread, my favorite. The party that I was with really enjoyed themselves, maybe a little too much. We moved the party to the bar area after dinner and it was busy with a mixed crowd of people and some cute waitresses!!
My wife and I recently had a better than mediocre meal at the Scotch N Sirloin, although you can definitly do better elsewhere both on price and quality.
What torqued me off is this: the two times we have been there this year we were overcharged for items we never ordered or received. Both times! Each overcharge was $7.00 to $8.00. Just small enough to hopefully not be noticed but large enough to add up to some serious dough if done consistantly to numerous customers.
We eat out several times a week in lots of places and have encountered this little "mistake" a few times before.
Never once has the mistake been in our favor (undercharged) Always the error favors the house.
Coincidence?? I really suspect not.
When I brought this to the manager's attention he was apologetic and seemed truly concerned.
However, we don't need this kind of issue when trying to have a relaxing night out. With so many other excellent restaurants to choose from in the area we will skip the Scotch N Sirloin for forever with no tears shed.
Poor quality. Recently ate here for the first and last time. The decor has all the charm of a soup kitchen, and I'd guess the food quality is similar. The salad bar is laughable, they obviously haven't put a dime back into this place. Frequented by very old people who probably don't know much better. I implore you, don't make a mistake by going here, it's very expensive considering the very poor quality.
Disappointment All Around. Seated 75 minutes after being told the wait was 30 - 45 minutes. The service was dismal. Obvious signs that we wanted something (closed menu, arms crossed, the look of Hey!! Over here!) seemed lost on the waitress. We had to ask for everything and all requests required a wait. Steaks were mediocre. Pricey for what we got. Undercooked to start. Then re-cooked to black on the outside and still undercooked inside. Service was lacking overall. Gross misjudgment by the hostess. Waitress overloaded with 2 large groups plus 4 5 additional tables- she never had a chance. The restaurant seems uncertain as to what it wants to be. Blue-jean oriented in the bar, with peanut shells on the floor, but pricing that causes one to choke. Do one or the other, but not both. Its not working. Hire more wait staff help and a hostess who can estimate time.
Good, but not #1.
This is a good restaurant, the service can be cold and not very helpful. The salad bar is fresh but ordinary, and boring. Last time we were there we were crushed between the wall and a large, very loud party of 15.
The steaks are good but the last 2 times I had to send mine back because of the doneness being wrong.
Excellent. The Scotch n Sirloin is a consistently excellent meal. The casual atmosphere and superb food make it a restaurant my husband and I go to a few times a month. Highly recommend!
Editorial Review. Since 1969, this lounge and steakhouse has served reasonably-priced steaks and seafood in a casual setting.
good!. This was our second time here, and we weren't disappointed! Our server lacked personality skills, but the food was great. A friend of mine from work also recently informed me that their Happy Hour is awesome (FREE wings & great deals).
grrrrreat. great food & great salad bar great time all around
